At the Takura-ugi Shrine, when people pray for safety in the home, a good harvest, and prosperous business, they offer a calf made of Bizen ware (sold at the side of the approach to the shrine), and when they return with one of the cows already offered, they return with one more cow to thank the shrine for fulfilling their wishes.
The Cow Shrine Grand Festival on January 5 attracts many worshippers, and the number of cows offered to the shrine is said to have increased to as many as 200,000.
There is no permanent administrator at Tagura Ushi Shrine. Please note that it is unmanned on normal days.
