Ida ruins (Japanese Heritage)

The site was modeled after the Ida method of the Zhou Dynasty in China, and in the 10th year of the Kanbun Era, Ikeda Mitsumasa, feudal lord of Okayama, ordered Tsuda Nagatada to build it in the Honami Ida area of present-day Bizen City.

The area of Kami-ida and Shimo-ida consisted of 9 township 7 mu of Kami-ida and 9 township 3 反18 pawns of Shimo-ida, each plot being divided into 9 equal parts from Ichino-cho to 9-no-cho, and the Shu-ho method was implemented. The eight households cultivated the land in nine public fields, and the harvest was taxed at a rate of 10%, an ideal tax system. It is said that the remains of such a system are so valuable that there are no existing examples in Japan or China.
