KONISHI TOKO, the kiln owner, has maintained the traditional firing process using red pine, the original material for Bizen ware, and has focused on quality over quantity in its production.
Konishi Touko (real name: Konishi Toichiro), the grandson of Nagami Touraku, a master craftsman of the early Meiji period, established the kiln.
The first generation invented a method of artificially creating a view called "sangiri," which until then had been created by chance. We are particularly proud of the vivid sangiri and continue to carry on the beautiful flavor of this technique.
He is known not only as "Touko of pier cuttings" but also as "Touko of craftsmanship" and is highly regarded for the delicate workmanship and careful finishing seen in his tea ceremony utensils and zodiac figurines.
Mitsue Konishi (born in 1927), the second daughter of the first generation, took over as the second generation and utilized the largest old traditional ramma kiln in Ibe.
Currently, Konishi Touzo, a grandson of the first generation, supervises the kiln's works and also produces works as an artist, and is designated as an intangible cultural property holder by Bizen City.
