Kaz Fujiwara

1958Born in Honami, Bizen City as the eldest son of Living National Treasure, Yu Fujiwara
Returned to his hometown after finishing Meisei University in 1980. Began making pottery under the tutelage of his grandfather, Kei, and father, Yu.
1986 Around this time, he began producing solo and commemorative exhibitions of Kei and Yu, as well as reliefs and objets d'art created by Yu.
1988 Coordinated the first Japanese solo exhibition "Bizen: 1,000 Years and Now" at the National Museum of Contemporary Art, Korea. The World of Yu Fujiwara" at the National Museum of Contemporary Art, Korea and coordinated the exhibition "Yu Fujiwara" at the BAWAG Art Foundation, Vienna, Austria.
1990.3 Fired his first kiln. First solo exhibition "The First Fujiwara Japanese Ceramic Exhibition" was held at Okayama Tenmanya. Since then, the exhibition has been held regularly every three years.
1991 "Fujiwara Japanese Ceramics Exhibition" held at the Nihombashi Takashimaya Department Store.
1993His work was exhibited for the first time at the Chugoku Branch Exhibition of the Japan Crafts Association and was selected for the first time. Since then, he has been selected and awarded prizes consecutively. Awarded the Encouragement Prize at the Okayama Prefectural Exhibition. Since then, he has received the Okayama Prefectural Exhibition Award, the Okayama City Mayor's Award, and other awards every year.
1994The Asahi Shimbun sponsored "Three Generations of Bizen Fujiwara Exhibition" at Takashimaya Department Stores in Tokyo, Yokohama, Kyoto, and Osaka. Held at the Sanyo Department Store in Himeji. Selected for the exhibition "Chanoyu no Zokei Exhibition" organized by Tabe Museum of Art. Selected for the first time to participate in the Asahi Ceramic Art Exhibition. Became a member of the Chugoku Branch of the Japan Crafts Association.
1995The 2nd Yakishime Pottery Exhibition, first time exhibited and first prize winner. Awarded the Excellent Work Prize at the Asahi Ceramic Art Exhibition. Selected for the first time at the Japan Traditional Crafts Exhibition.
Selected for the 1996 Japan Traditional Crafts Exhibition. Exhibited a large Suriza jar at the "Charm of Bizen Pottery" exhibition organized by Niimi Art Museum. Exhibited vases at the 21st Century Culture Council's "Playing with Japan: Looking Back to the Future" exhibition.
1997Participated in Bali International Art Festival. Held a five-person exhibition with Yasunori Inoue, Toshio Ohi, Takahiro Kondo, Yoshitaka Nakazato, and Kaz Fujiwara. Since then, he has exhibited in various places under the name of "Tsanntokai". Participated in "Cordes de feu Mille ans de ceramique japonaise,a Bizen" at the National Museum of Ceramics, France.
1998Exhibited an objet d'art, "Thoughts," in the Bird House Project 1998 at Benesse Village (Naoshima, Kagawa Prefecture). Produced the wall relief "Hinode Anabuki" for the Anabuki Housing and Environment Research Institute, Takamatsu City, Kagawa Prefecture, Japan.
1999 Japan Foundation sponsored Jananese Pottery The Rising Generation From Traditional Japanese Kilns exhibition. Produced the exhibition "Kei Fujiwara - Poem of Fire" commemorating the 100th anniversary of the birth of his grandfather, Kei Fujiwara.
Began producing 2000ZIKISAI.COM.
2001 Okayama Nichinichi Shimbun Cultural Encouragement Award.
Received the Distinguished Achievement Award from the Japan Academy in 2002. Appointed as Goodwill Ambassador of the Japan United Nations Environment Programme Foundation (JUF).
2003 Korea-Japan Cultural Exchange 50th Anniversary "Contemporary Korea-Japan Ceramic Art Exhibition", Seoul, Korea. 2003 "Korea-Japan Ceramic Art Exhibition: Journey of Soil", Mokpo, Korea, commemorating the opening of the Korea Ceramic Research Institute, and produced a T-shirt for the UNISEF Christmas Event "Starlight message".
2004Advisor to the Chugoku Branch of the Urasenke Tankokai, Chado.
2005Produced the relief work "Shikarumi" for the ANA Hotel in Okayama.
Became president of the Toushinkai in 2006. Solo exhibition at the Japan Foundation Gallery, Sydney, Australia, as a government-approved project for the Australia-Japan Year of Exchange. Appointed as a board member of the Bizen Pottery Tohyukai.
2007Produced a work commemorating the inauguration of the Tendai sect's Zashu Handa.
2008 "Kei Fujiwara and Yu Fujiwara Father and Son Exhibition" Okayama Prefectural Museum of Art. Kaden" Yuichi Maetani, flower arrangement artist, and Kei Saito, calligrapher, Tokyo.
2009Lecture on Japanese Culture at Leiden University, The Netherlands. Lecture at the Japan Cultural Institute in Paris. Seat leader of the "Ayame-kai" (Tatsuno City). Cornea Bank Charity Auction, Tokyo, Japan
2010 Setouchi International Art Festival "Inujima Noyaki Pottery
2011Produced "Ekichu Museum" at JR Okayama Station. Bizen Pottery Today: The Trajectory of Fujiwara Bizen" at the Japan Cultural Institute in Paris. Exhibition of three generations of Fujiwara.
