Ruins of Kumazawa Bansan's house (Japanese Heritage)

Kumazawa Bansan and his related samurai residences were located between the Hachinotani River on the west side of Shorakuji Temple in the Bansan area and the Otani River flowing from the east.

In 1657, at the age of 39, Kumazawa Bansan changed the name of the village then known as Teraguchi Village to Bansan.

He lived here with 11 comrades for about four years until he left Bansan village in 1661 at the age of 43.

Today, a monument to Bansan's virtues stands at the site of his residence.
